Road Safety Summer School 2024
From September 2nd to 11th, the fourth International Road Safety Summer School was held at the Scientific and Educational Campus Borongaj in Zagreb, Croatia, organized by the Faculty of Transport and Traffic Sciences at the University of Zagreb.
The lectures were thematically focused on key traffic safety factors: the human factor, road infrastructure and its environment, and the vehicle factor. The final days of the program were dedicated to hands-on fieldwork, including crash tests and road safety inspections of two intersections in Zagreb. As in previous years, the Road Safety Summer School also organized extracurricular activities, such as a guided tour of the city of Zagreb and a trip to the Plitvice Lakes National Park. On the first and last nights of the summer school, gala dinners were held, giving participants the opportunity to introduce themselves and experience Croatian cuisine.
This year’s summer school brought together 24 participants from 18 countries, which fostered an exchange of road safety practices and broadened participants’ perspectives. Additionally, 30 leading global experts in the field of road safety gave lectures, allowing participants to learn about road safety implementation in other countries and create valuable connections.
We are grateful for the generous support from our sponsors, who once again stepped forward to provide scholarships to participants and refreshments that kept them cool during the hot summer days. It is also important to note that, as of May 2024, the “Road Safety Summer School” became part of the European project “TWIN-SAFE: Advancing Road Safety Through Twinning,” co-financed by the Horizon Europe program and coordinated by the Faculty of Transport and Traffic Sciences.
